Dangerous Surf
Dangerous Surfing Conditions – Peregian Beach
It saddens me and our close community, to hear of a Tourist that has disappeared off my local beach, Peregian. All efforts have been put in place to locate him.
Qld.Water Police co-ordinating with Peregian Life Savers Club, Emergency Services and Surfboard riders that frequent the area systematically searching a vast area of ocean.
I appears the man got into difficulties whilst swimming outside the Surf Life Saving Patrolled Area, clearly marked by Orange and Yellow Flags.
The Surf has been running particularly big over the last few weeks with long gutters, sweeps, and rips forming, especially after the low tide turns and brings on the higher tides. This is a particularly dangerous time for the inexperienced, or unawares swimmer to swim.
We have steps in place to warn swimmers of the dangers of swimming in non patrolled areas, with big signs in all different languages, and most with graphics explaining the dangers are located at beach entrances
Not to put a finer point on it but some where along the line we are not getting the message through, especially to the tourist sector. This whole area might need a rethink.
Any who, may be we could share the following information by passing relative information on, when friends or relatives arrive from o’seas.

We as locals have all seen these signs and the ones in multiple languages how about taking it upon ourselves to advise people if we think they are doing the wrong thing in the surf. OK you may say that’s interfering, but who knows,…that may have saved a life.

Surfing Lessons Sunshine Coast
Surfing Lessons Sunshine Coast
Surfing Lessons on the Sunshine Coast are few and far between and ones that offer to video you as a bonus is rare. The following is an excerpt from a blog that I found by Sunnycoast Klips that I found worthwhile and worthy of a recommendation to you
Steve Maloney of Sunnycoast Klips says “I would say at every level, and the best form of criticism is the constructive kind. So this is where I am about to make a few points worthy of consideration”. Stevo continues;
“Being a die hard surfer and not just filmmaker myself, and flashing back on prior surfing years as one who entered many competitions, coaching clinics and so on. I can comment that watching your self surf on film, helps you to see what you are doing right,…and wrong, more so then any thing else. We tend to emulate our hero’s like Kelly and Mick. You can bet your life if they did a double air reverse, and landed it, every one would be out there trying that. It’s the old as “do as I do” theory. Every one does it, we thrive on it, as we should. Just think, that if you had yourself on that bit of film, it would do your surfing progress no harm at all. It’s real fun, and you get pointers so you can improve on your abilities while you’re at it. To put it simply seeing your self surf on film, will help you progress more then all other coaching methods combined. And you are able to watch over and over again until you have ironed out the creases.”
Sunnycoast Klips caters to surfers at all levels, being beginner, intermediate, holiday maker, backpacker, Stevo can structure a surfing lesson or only a film package just for you, to remember your stay up here or simply to see how it’s all coming along, or just love of the movie memorabilia to be able to take back home, so cool!. Stevo also caters to surfing schools looking at advancing their clients through this avenue.
We have a Vimeo clip for your enjoyment.

JACK McCOY-Deeper Shade of Blue
Jack McCoy – Deeper Shade of Blue
Deeper Shade of Blue
Underwater videography has had the bar raised recently by Jack McCoy. Jack McCoy filmed stunning sequences of surfers from inside the waves. Tracking them with the German made ultra fast high powered sea scooter called, the SEABOB
With this, Jack has been capturing the surfing vision in a truly unique way. Jack found that he was able to travel behind a wave, creating underwater images that have never been seen before. “Now I’m free to not only track the action, but get to places underwater quickly and film things I’ve never been able to show before.” This SEABOB has a range of approximately 10 miles underwater, McCoy’s HD camera is mounted to the top of the scooter and is designed to be able to tilt up or down, as well as spin 360 degrees, to allow him to film extraordinary angles.
Over the past couple of years, McCoy set out to capture footage for his surf film, A Deeper Shade of Blue. During the editing process, McCoy put one of his surfing sequences to a song off McCartney’s The Fireman album. A mutual friend, Chris Thomas, saw the footage while visiting McCoy in Australia, and when he returned to the UK he gave McCartney a copy of the sequence. Music legend Paul McCartney was so impressed, he recruited the award-winning surf filmmaker Jack McCoy to create the music video for his previously unreleased track “Blue Sway.” Paul was pretty stoked with what McCoy had created. Jack said “When I heard that, I started dancing around the room because I could imagine editing my shots to the song,”
The movie, Deeper Shade of Blue was played to an enthusiastic audience at Maroochydore Cinemas. The crowd was enthralled by the passion of Jack McCoy, entertaining before and after the movie with anecdotal gems that the audience were eager to hear about. Deeper Shade of Blue, the surfing movie, displayed in all its glory on the big screen, was a gem. The story line took you far away, to countries and surfing cultures that havn’t been presented in this way before.
Jack McCoy, presenter, film maker extraordinaire, has an unbridled passion for filming surfing and the culture of surfing. At the movie he said, “This movie took five years to put together, and I think its my last” I personally cant see Jack McCoy hanging up the shutter…Can you?

7S SUPERFISH II Surfboard
7S SUPERFISH II
7S Superfish II
This all time “most popular” 7S Superfish II surfboard has finally been updated to increase both performance and durability. A very deep single to double concave heralds a new bottom (not what it sounds like) A concave that provides extra drive and planing due to the extra lift in the tail, adding that extra speed in an already sick shape. The fliers now look like the real thing as does the swallow tail by definition, providing release off the tail when you want it and also creating that extra speed. Hey it still has that famous “step deck” that lets it float better than most and the step doesn’t interfere with the rail action.
Extra glass is used to make this board durable. The fin set up is a 5 fin plug system and FCS fins provides the steering system.
The 7S Superfish comes in PE finishes, X-2 Epoxy and new Carbon rail FF for the most responsive experience.

JR Surfboards Test Session
We have included two videos one on Stevo’s board Punt Rocka Carbon 201 and in Stevo’s words “These little puppies are so sick, every one should have one” and the other video being a “Test Session” of the Boxsta and the Punt Rocka.
Sean Cansdell, had never ridden these models before and the boards were gripped up on the beach

JR SURFBOARDS-Punt Rocka
JR Surfboards Punt Rocka model CARBON 201 eclipses the whole range of JR Surfboards.
Basically, Jason uses a Carbon Stringer instead of timber, which is routed about 5mil down the deck of the board. This feature combined with the Carbon Rails, which wrap around the rails of the board creating a twist and flex pattern. This inherently makes the board far stronger, and over all less likely to break, than a normal stringer board.
