SUPER SLO-MO SURFER-SOUTH PACIFIC

Aug-31-2010 By Birdie the Boardie

Super Slo-Mo Surfer-South Pacific

This footage was shot in High Definition Video in a super slow motion setting.

Big wave surfer David Longbottom was captured on or in a 12 foot monster of a barrel.

They claim that it was the “first shots of their kind ever recorded” how-ever under water footage has been around for a long time, and may be their claim was, that it was captured in a “super slow motion setting”. Any ideas?

How-ever the footage is certainly by a master at work and Farley has captured the moment like no other, this footage is mind boggling and shows the Ocean at work.

Super Slo Mo Surfer as he is now called, David Longbottom must have been stoked that Farley got these sick images. Enjoy the short take courtesy of the BBC 2.

SURFING and NOSTALGIA – Special Six of 1964 and 1999

64 World Titles Rematch

Surfing and Nostalgia - Special Six of 1962 and 1999

Surf Shop found this great little gem of a video while searching Coastwatch Archives about what could be described as the

Surfing and Nostalgia – 1964 and 1999.

The archival footage shows the arrival of the  special six surfer guys  back in 1964, to compete in the World Surfing Titles held at Manly Beach all dressed up in suits.

The main part of the story’s footage was shot at the 1999 Noosa Festival of Surfing, to record for posterity the fun and aloha spirit of the last five survivors of the ’64 event. These guys showed us though a little older, they still had what it takes. Their age did not hinder their abilities and a great show was put on.

Joey Cabell  turned 70 in Dec 08, the others weren’t so forth coming with their ages but enough said Mike Doyle and LJ Richards are best of mates and still go surfing, diving, snowboarding, and sailing together, where Mick Dooley and Midget F. still live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, and still surf  when ever possible.

SURF SHOP

Aug-25-2010 By Birdie the Boardie

Life Is Better..

SURF SHOP

The Peregian beach precinct has a specialty “Surf-Shop”, and is highly visible on the David Low Way frontage of the Peregian roundabout.

Peregian Beach Surf-Shop is committed to their customers by providing them with quality brands of Surf Accessories, Surfboards and a large range of famous Surf brands in clothing.

LABELS

Surf Wear Clothing covers the range of apparel that defines a surf culture in casual clothing for Men and Women. Brands like Roxy, Quiksilver, O’Neill, Volcom Fox, and other fashion brands like Filo, Blue 54, and Pure Hype, which also fit in this category from time to time.

BOARD SHORTS

For guys and Girls there is a little piece of essential gear, that has progressed if you remember, from variations of Canvas like materials, to a quick dry Nylon and Terylene, and that was only the 60′s and 70’s.

Today it is a high tech fight, amongst the worlds biggest surfing apparel manufacturers, to produce the slickest pair of “Quick Dry” and “Stretch” Boardies any one can wear in and out of the Surf.

SWIM SUITS.

One Piece swimsuits are gathering popularity over all age groups because of colour and style innovation, but first and foremost, lets not leave out the ever-popular Bikini, and this is where the Peregian Beach Surf Shop has you covered.

The Surf-Shop offers it’s customer’s old style personal service to help you find the Swimwear that you want, what size, or the style you need to suit you best, and that service includes everything in casual clothing as well.

WET SUITS

O’Neill is the “Wettie” of choice here, and seems always to be at the ‘top’ when a shoot out appears in the Surf magazines.

Most styles are stocked to suit our climate but “special orders” are catered for. Surf Shop are agents for Quiksilver but are not stockists for this season that is nearly over.

Surf Shop is running specials on all O’Neill wetties, with big savings of up to $50.00 off the Rec. Price, while they last.

SURF BOARDS

Arguably the best brands in Australia are available from the SURF-SHOP in Peregian beach. Including Long boards by McTavish, Billy Tolhurst, G & S, Arrows, Robert August, Walden, and Woody Point. These boards cover all styles from Hot Doggers, Nose Riders, Concave Styles, Single, Quad, and Thrusters Fin configuration.

The ‘hottest’ sellers in the Short Boards category at the SURF-SHOP are the 7S Fishes by GSI, followed by in no specific order by Aloha, Webber, and WMD. Other boards by Surftech and NSP in epoxy finishes are also popular.

There is also a small range of quality s/hand surfboards available at the SURF-SHOP.

SURF WEAR

Aug-10-2010 By Birdie the Boardie

SURF WEAR
Surf Wear covers the range of apparel that defines the surf culture in clothing.
Surf Wear-Board Short
A good place to start is the Board Short.
This little piece of essential gear, has progressed if you remember, from variations of Canvas like materials, to a quick dry Nylon and Terylene, and that was only the 60′s and 70’s.
Today it is a high tech bun fight, amongst the worlds biggest surfing apparel manufacturers, to produce the slickest pair of Boardies a Surfer can wear.
It would be difficult to rate, as to who comes in first, as the Companies say theirs is the “best”, and then you can throw in the customer brand loyalty swaying the vote as well. So, I won’t suggest here for one moment which here is the best, but suffice to say for this article, we will only feature O’Neill, and Quiksilver brands…yay!
In no particular order or preference, but we have to start some where, so…

SURF WEAR

A. The O’Neill Hyperfreak 4 Way Stretch feels like an elastic band, and has built in memory composition in the fiber, so it snaps back into the original shape. No more hang ups! It is treated with a water resistant finish for a quick dry as a bonus. These are seriously good shorts, so try them…they will amaze you.

B. The Quiksilver “J-Dub” aka Julian Wilson, Diamond Dobby “CYPHER” series boardie, boasts 30% less skin contact to eliminate rashing, and the fabric is so light that it feels like you are surfing with nothing on. Looks and feels like the ultimate short. Pink is a promotional color for this season, with a percentage of the sale going to the Breast Cancer Awareness Programmes.

C. This sounds like a repeat, but O’Neill has gone one better than its own Hyperfreak 4 Way Stretch and it offers its customers an up graded version of the same, being the Hyperfreak 2.0. This is still the amazing stretch but features in addition a Welded Hem with No Inseam to rub you in the crutch. Also, it features a Superfly with Stretch,  and a Lock in Drawcord Rise,…phew!

The Surf Wear Board Short war hots up and Peregian beach Surf Shop are only highlighting two brands in this selection.

D. The last Boardie but certainly not the least is the Quiksilver Cypher Massive No Rash Diamond Dobby DLX™  as worn by Kelly Slater also with the 30% less skin contact as the “J-Dubb” but it features not only this advanced fabric but “redefines what’s possible through performance technology.” A few features are included in this one, like welded seams, a double up closure, neoprene paneling for extra stretch, flat welded zip rear pocket, and to top it off, this model is part of the “Core Collection,” that being an “exclusive offering of technical surf products and essentials, available in selected Surf-Shops only”.

This has been a shoot out between two brands, over four different models of Board Shorts, each aspiring to attract the attention of Surfers at different levels. the only thing to do is to go down to your local Surf-Shop and try a pair on, squat down, marvel at the stretch, and buy the one you can afford, as they are all…SICK!

These shorts and also a large variety of other Brands of Board Shorts are available for you to try on at:-

WARNING-THIS IS NOT YOUR DAD’S FISH

Aug-7-2010 By Birdie the Boardie

WARNING-THIS IS NOT YOUR DAD’S FISH

Hands off Dad!

This is the dire WARNING as a headline, for a recent release from GLOBAL SURF INDUSTRIES of a surfboard that Dad’s should leave alone, and it goes like this:-

“WARNING- THIS IS NOT YOUR DAD’S FISH”

GSI defines this latest release of the 7S WMD as “the bullet movement for performance alternative in short board designs”. They have tagged the sales pitch as a “warning-this is not your dad’s fish” possibly to create interest in both camps.

The 7S WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction) “boasts high performance rails and a super thin swallow tail that generates massive speed acceleration and thrust out of every turn”

What’s the Secret

The secret to this board is that it has a very flat entry rocker and thin tail exit which allows you to get on the wave earlier, and set yourself up to generating your speed quickly, even after performing a spin or a vertical cut back re entry. When you look at the line of the board, one stand out design construction is obvious, and that is the ¾ length full single concave that provides you with the lift, and speed, in nearly all conditions from overhead, to sloppy knee high waves. The WMD’s single flyer swallow tail needs further inspection, as the tail together with the “spiral vee” just behind the leading fins, allows drive and pivot like a thruster with the ease of  a twin fin. It will go like the clappers just as a thruster or a twinnie, with wave count up because of the extra floatation and paddle on, of the fish design, and that’s all got to be good.

What Fins?

The WMD comes with FCF fins standard, or you can opt up for twinnies with  a small trailer fin.

Where Do You Get It

WHAT MAKES FISH SURFBOARDS RIP?

May-13-2010 By Birdie the Boardie

Why Do Fish Surfboards Rip?

WHAT MAKES FISH SURFBOARDS RIP?

Global Surfboard manufacturing companies work hard to identify and categorise the models they make, and one surfboard model of note is the 7S Super Fish Surfboard range.

FISH SURFBOARDS.

Fish Surfboards have become a world phenomenon in popularity not only for accomplished surfers but also those who want to lift their level to a higher point, and when only a Fish will do that job.

Basic Fish Model

The basic Fish model shape shows a more hippier characteristic feature over it’s counterpart, the modern day Thruster . This Hippier shape if you will, is what gives it the term Fish, and along with that shape is given a generous amount of floatation, and it is inherently wider, and also made thicker than a Thruster style surfboard.

Super Fish XL

This extra size has opened up a new world of surfing for the bigger surfer as well, when floatation then becomes a lesser problem and Fish boards can be set up as twins or quads can handle a variety of wave size being bumpy or smooth, and in the hands of an expert. even quick suckey waves.

One Fish surfboard is at the fore front of the Fish surfing world, and is is the model known as 7S Super Fish, and a model for thebig blokes the 7S Super Fish XL.

So what makes fish surfboards rip?7S is available in all sizes at our Peregian Beach Sunshine Coast Surf Shop and their construction is regular polyurethane fiber glass, and also the acclaimed Epoxy finished models, that are super lightweight, and very durable,

7S SECRETS

The 7S secrets are that this style of board has the “step deck design”, which gives this Fish design model and that also gives them a high buoyancy advantage, but this factor doesn’t interfere with the inbuilt high performance rail design. To add insult to injury it doesn’t stop there, when the bottom of the board features low entry rocker that flows into a full length concave, to help get the best out of full rail turns.

This 7s Super Fish board can help you make sections that you never have before, it is  as smooth as it is fast.

Manufacturing Features

The manufacture points to note is that they are glassed with 2 x 4 oz deck and 1 x 4 oz bottom with an extra 4oz patch around the fin area. The boards come in a silky smooth Gloss Polish finish in the Poly models, or Gloss Painted finish in the Epoxy models, and they all come standard with FCS M7 Quad Glassflex Series fins.

The Fish Range

The full model Fish Surfboards and the 7S range, can be seen at the “Surf- Shop” David Low Way, Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast, or just follow the links to “Dealers”, on Global Surf Industries web site to view more of the 7S Surfboards, and click on “Surf-Shop” Peregian Beach as your preferred supplier.

SLING IT!--BOARDSLING

New Surfboard Carrying Device

Surfboard Carrier- Easy As, A…BOARDSLING

How lucky if you only live a couple of minutes to the beach, but if you are like most of us you usually have a lot of walking to do to get to that perfect break.

Boards are sometimes awkward and heavy when you need to carry any distance.

Boardsling Surfboard Carrying Device

There is a way out however, and it’s called a Boardsling surfboard carrier that is surprisingly easy to use. Gone are the heavy board bags with their slings when you use one of these. Simplicity and ease is it’s major feature.

Just a few points in the Boardsling’s favour.

a/ Carries that big heavy board with ease

b/ Don’t need long arms.

c/ Makes a long walk easy.

d/ Helps eliminate sore back and muscles

e/ Hah! Even the kids can carry their own now!

You know it’s available at the Surf-Shop Peregian Beach and it’s only $49.95

So get every body to carry their own boards, and you can bet when you have one and forget to throw it in the car when you leave for the beach, you will definitely kick yourself for doing so. Just leave it attached to your board when you pack it away, that way you won’t forget it, and hang it up by the strap when you get home is the trick.

PEREGIAN SURF SHOP TRUTH UNCOVERED

Bob McTavish Going Vertical

PEREGIAN SURF SHOP TRUTH UNCOVERED

GOING VERTICAL

The Truth Uncovered

There was a time and it is now Surfing History when a film maker, David Bradbury (arguably one of the best Aussie Doco’ film makers) did justice to the McTavish and Brewer argument.

What was Bradbury doing making a Surfing Doco? Well when asked this question Bradbury said, “ I grew up with Midget Farrelly and Bruce Brown were heroes of mine, so I was happy to run with it even though it was out of my norm, it was interesting to step outside my comfort zone of Political and Social issue events”.
