A S P WORLD TOUR 2010

Dec-16-2009 By Birdie the Boardie

All’s good in Surfing when the A S P World Tour for 2010 is alive and breathing.  “The surfers and events continue to work together with ASP Management to create a world class sport,” Rip Curl’s Neil Ridgway, ASP Events’ Council Chairman, said. “There are over one thousand ranked surfers from juniors to pros chasing an ASP World Title, and tens of thousands behind them dreaming of winning one themselves. Our tours provide sporting, economic, social and environmental benefits to almost every continent on the planet. We uphold the career pathway and continue to nurture the millions of fans who follow their heroes on the ASP World Tours.” This statement was attributed to the official A S P web site and you may read more on the official site here:

Best Ever!- so far

Flawed System?                                                             Following a Board of Directors meeting recently the ASP appears to have quelled the threat posed by the ESPN backed Rebel Tour. With flaws in their current system highlighted by the breakaway tour, this meeting was always going to be of utmost importance.
 Old News?

The key information to come out of the meeting was that the surfers and holders of “event licence’s” were backing the ASP; the introduction of a single-tier rating system was to be introduced; numbers reduced to 32 per event; and that prize money would be increased.

As yet there has been no word from ESPN or spokesman for the Rebel Tour. So as they say, “watch this space” You can read more related stories and articles at the following link:
