Big Waves West Oz
Just recently another hugh swell hit the Southwest Western Aust. coastline and a bunch of incredible surfers again risked their lives for a big thrill and the video mastery of Tim Bonython caught it.
The dangerous area is located about one kilometre off the coast so not too far away to string a few days together for locals and “slab hunters” alike’
Can’t really say if this is one of the worlds greatest waves, but it sure stood out to be close. On these couple of days it easily delivered close out sections, and big thumping barrels, and as the footage shows, it crunched a few too.
The waves were unpredictable and Mark Mathews described it as “It was more evil than I ever surfed it before.”
Other guys describing it as “sickeningly”, and “terrifying”, “just what we like” with the occasional two wave hold downs were, Richie Vas, Laurie Towner, Jack Kingsley, Phil Ried with a real life close shave for Ryan Hippwood, close to drowning.
